Delta Chi at Northern Iowa is currently not rushing. However, we may be trying to colonize again in the near future.

Let me dismiss the common misconceptions about fraternities:

FRATERNITIES ARE FULL OF NOTHING BUT PRETTY PREP BOYS

---not quite. granted, there are a few in the greek system, but every fraternity is different and there is a fraternity for everyone. delta chi is full of a variety of people from rotc members to drama majors.

FRATERNITIES ARE TOO EXPENSIVE AND I'M NOT RICH

---the price of fraternities is an investment like anything else at college with a far better return. compared to the total cost of college, being in a fraternity is merely a drop in the bucket. currently delta chi is the cheapest fraternity on campus. there are few "rich" people in college. it's just a matter of priorities and budgeting.

I DON'T BUY MY FRIENDS, AND I WANT TO MEET OTHER PEOPLE

---you're not buying friends. if you're not a genuine friend, you won't be asked to join a fraternity. the money is used throughout the semester for events, trips, and other things. everyone is free to make friends anywhere they want. delta chi does not "require" time from you. no one in the chapter hangs out exclusively with the members. fraternities just open a large group of potential friends quickly.

I WANT TO CONCENTRATE ON MY STUDIES (YEA, RIGHT)

---fraternities in general have larger gpa's than those not in fraternities. most houses have a gpa requirement to join. delta chi has a scholarship chair that monitors grades and directs troubled students to help. being in a group with a variety of majors is a great advantage when struggling in those gen ed classes.

MY PARENTS DON'T WANT ME TO BECOME A PARTY MONSTER

---parents, listen up. despite what you hear in the news and see in the movies, students in the greek system are less likely to get into trouble due to alcohol and drugs. the papers never mention that a much lesser percentage of greek members compared to the student body o.d. on drugs, die from over drinking, end up in jail, or commit suicide. why? because you have people watching over you. delta chi has a big brother program which pairs new members with an older and wiser one.

YES, BUT WHAT ABOUT ALL THOSE CRAZY PARTIES

---parties get crazy at fraternities, but it's not alcohol fueled. currently at uni, no kegs are allowed, id's are checked, and the amount of alcohol you can bring is limited. fraternity parties are not open "let all the crazies in and bash our house" fests. by law fraternities monitor everyone coming through the door. it might be crazy, but it is a controlled and safe party. the lawyers destroyed the fraternities of the 70's. delta chi has a risk manager that monitors all safety issues at events.

I DON'T WANT TO BE FORCED TO DO ANYTHING

---delta chi was the first fraternity to abolish hell week and hazing. all that is required to join is attendence at a few events. this usually involves a philantrophy event, a house building project, and several classes on delta chi, the greek system, and their history. all these are worked around the schedule of the pledge, and all delta chi members are involved. the whole process takes less than a semester.

FINE, BUT WHEN'S THIS INVESTMENT ACCRUE

---after graduating is when the real advantages kick in. being in a fraternity gives you a web of connections, afterall it's who you know. the house is a great meeting place for alumni. meeting people even continues after graduation as new members are iniitiated and alumni keep up with the current members. skills learned including leadership, time management, and people skills will be with you for life (employers love these). like a class reunion, delta chi has an alumni gathering once or twice a year. delta chi is a brotherhood of life.
